toddler seat ruined everything!

Reviewed by: Eugenie from Melbourne, Mar 28, 2006

General Review

i loved this pram when we first got it (it would have got 5 stars). we bought the bassinet to use for the first 6 months and then the standard pusher style after that. it has great manuverability both these ways and is nice and light. however, folding with the bassinet requires the bassinet being removed; it took a few anxious attempts with screaming baby in car to get it right! but as a pusher it is quite easy.
now with bub number two on the scene i opted for the toddler seat which doesn't work with the bassinet. therefore, the bub had to use the pusher. the pusher set up just doesn't work for a bub under 6 months. the head cushion is too big and their head rolls off it at right angles and it isn't stable at all, seeming to sway around with the zips being the mechanism for reclining. plus, the baby's head ends up lower than their legs - it just isn't comfortable for a little one!
as for the damned toddler seat. the baby's legs would get almost crushed underneath the seat and the pram that was once a dream to steer, became a nightmare to move around! the weight at the front just doesn't work. plus if you take a corner too quickly, you nearly dump the children out as it threatens to tip over.
i've now changed to a babylove tandem, and so far so good!

Pros

* great with the bassinet option.
* easy to manuver with bassinet or pusher set up.
* air tyres for 'off road' walking.

Cons

* pusher not suitable for under 6 months old due to cushion and full recline position leaving baby's head lower than legs.
* toddler seat shouldn't even be an accessory; baby can't fit under or behind it, nor can they see much, so get easily bored.
* tips sideways easily when turning quickly, particularly with the toddler seat.
* can't access the basket below once the seat is in recline position.

Valco Runabout (Standard)

General Review

I required a pram for my newborn and my 2 year old which was compact enough to fit in the boot of my car and light enough for me to easily lift in an out of a sedan. The Valco seemed to be the only pram within my price range (under $400) which fit my requirements. There are things I love about this pram and this which really annoy me about it also. At times, with my 11kg toddler in the toddler seat the pram can be really hard to push (especially if the front swivel wheel is not straight). I have also found that the pram can be a bit awkward to pick up and put in the boot of my car. I need to take off the front wheel everytime to get the boot to close. Overall, the pram suits my needs (carting around my two children) in relative comfort and the price was affordable for me.

Pros

light, has toddler seat option, reasonable price

Cons

can tip easily with toddler in toddler seat, can be ackward to lift, front wheel does not steer easily with toddler on board
