Love the freedom

General Review

I am a mother to 3 littlies so far - 3yr old, 2yr old, and 5 months. I bought my 2008 Phil and Ted Sport V2 second hand 4 months ago with a lot of hesitancy I have to admit. The main reason being the price. Although second hand I still paid a decent amount for it.

But I have to say, I love this pram! Being out alone with all 3 of my tots is so much easier than with my valco double. Mainly because I can push 2 children with one hand and hold my 3yr-old's hand at the same time - which is so important to me, especially when crossing roads! Also, when out shopping once, this pram was the reason my 3yr old didn't pee all over the floor of the store! It fit through the restroom door (my Valco wouldn't have)so I was able to take all my children into the loo and not leave the others outside by themselves. So ++ for width (or lack thereof).

I wanted something both children riding could sit back in and nap if they needed to. although the toddler seat seems small, my 2yr old is at least 88cm tall and can still rest her head back on it if she needs to. My 5 month-old will probably outgrow the recline function by the time he's 9 months old because he's such a big boy (in 95th percentile for NZ height and weight) but by then he won't really use the recline anyway.

It steers very very well, even with one hand and 2 passengers. The main hood could be bigger and the toddler seat could use a hood (Phil and Teds have now re-designed the Sport as the new 'Explorer', with main hood bigger and toddler seat with a hood).

I don't mind the foot brake being stiff, as my 3 yr-old tries to undo brakes to take her siblings for walks but can't because she doesn't have the strength to disengage it.

A couple of annoying things: The adjustable handlebar moves up and down slightly when locked in postion, I walked past Sport prams in shops and tried it, they all do it! annoying.

And the bottom of the frame moves slight independently from the top of the frame, hard to explain but I discovered this when lifting the pram up over the kerb(along with the handlebar thing). It hasn't worsened since I've had it but it is annoying. But not the biggest deal overall. My friend also has a sport and I lifted hers and her's does it a bit as well. She bought hers new.

Oh and the harnesses are a bit annoying with the multitude of clips to do up and undo, I often end up only doing half of them up because they can be so fiddly, especially when wrestling with a child. I believe the newer P&T's harnesses are easier to use.

Although covers are sold seperately and aren't cheap, I love how I can cover both children well. I love that when I get caught in the rain my kids look so nice and comfy and dry inside their pram.

After reading reviews I was weary of the fabric ripping, but my fabric is in great condition with no holes or tears. It was used for over a year before I had it with no problems.

I have tall cildren. My 3 year-old is about 106cm tall and she can still sit comfortably in the main seat.

The storage basket is quite low to the ground, which makes me weary when walking through puddles with a full load!

I was iffy about the fabric footwell, but it hasn't been too bad, a few little scuffs from my kids shoes but nothing too major. and the fabric cleans up very well. (I have a black Sport, but the footwell is grey)

Aesthetically, I love the look, I prefer the nice, friendly look of the Sport over the 'Vibe' - The Vibe looks like a spaceship to me, and the I like the Dash but couldn't justify the extra $200. The Sport cost enough!

Hmmmm what else? Overall I'm very happy with my purchase, The Sport does what it should, I'm so happy with the freedom it gives me and the comfort it gives my children.

I like the new Explorer better but I'm not about to go out and spend hundreds more dollars on another pram! This one will do for a few years yet!

:)

Pros

- Slim width
- both children can sit back and nap
- raincover protects both children well
- Easy to push and manouvre

-

Cons

- Handlebar jiggly
- Not as sturdy as my Valco
- hood could be more effective in shading sun
- Harnesses a bit fiddly

eye-catching design and colours

General Review

I love this pram! I bought it when I lived in a small unit and needed to be able to lift it up and down stairs and fold it up and out of the way. I bought the bright green one and so many people I have met have commented on the great colour - you can see me coming a block away! I love that it is easy to fold up and swing into the back of a small car and it is narrow enough to navigate supermarket aisles and crowded shops.

I also bought the double-up kit at the same time even though I only have one child. This has been very handy when I have been watching friends' kids and also extra storage for shopping bags on busy days at Westfield!!

Pros

great colours
easy to steer around tight corners
easy to fold
lightweight

Cons

poor quality Kenda tyres - I have gone through 3 in less than a year. The rubber has a kink in the edge that pops out of the rim if the tube is pumped up to its limit.

the bright green is difficult to keep clean

when the double-up kit is on (and a child is in there), there is really no where to store a nappy bag.

Wobbly and unsteady

Reviewed by: Debbie from Melbourne, Jul 18, 2009

General Review

I have had this pram for 15 months and have had issues with the wheels from day 1. In the 15 months I have had the pram I have had 2 wheels replaced due to unsteadiness, 2 tubes replaced as they just kept deflating and the axel replaced because my wheel fell off three times while using the pram.
The pram has never driven well and has always seemed wobbly.
The footbrake is too hard to use. It is very stiff.
I find that the sun shade is not very good as it does not shade my 14 month old from the sun very well.
The handle needs to be longer especially when you have the toddler seat on the back. Your arms need to be at full stretch to use it. Overall I am very disappointed with the pram. It was not cheap pram to buy and I really expect much more form something that cost so much.

Pros

toddler seat

Cons

foot brake stiff
pram has an unstedy feel about it
handle is too short
sun shade doesn't sit far enough over child's face

Very disappointed

Reviewed by: Rich from North America, Apr 27, 2009

General Review

Foot break is very difficult to operate with shoes on, and impossible to work when wearing sandles. Also, the bouncy seat (from the doubles kit) immediately broke - the plastic pieces that are used to connect the metal tube sections broke in two separate places.

Pros

Don't know. Was never able to use the stroller.

Cons

Foot break extremely difficult to use.
Plastic connectors on the doubles kit bouncy sit broke within 1 hour of putting it together.

This pushchair caused harm to my baby!

Reviewed by: Ellen from Liverpool, Apr 03, 2009

General Review

I thought i found the perfect pushchair untill staples sticking out of the bottom of the zip started to slice into my babys legs =( I wouldn't even give this pushchair one star! Plus all teh fabrics are falling to pieces after about a months use - such a horrible stressfull experience - I woul;d never purchase anything related to Phil & Ted again - Thankfully baby is ok although he endured alot of pain!

Pros

Its smaller than a side by side.

Cons

ALL of the fabric has ripped after a months use

Staples sticking out of bottom of zip cut my babys legs up

Handle bar foam split - not covered by warrenty

Shopping basket broke after a montsh use - not covered by warrenty

No replacements have been sent after constantly pestering for the past few weeks as everything is out of stock!!!

Top job P & T

Reviewed by: Donna from Penrith, Jan 27, 2009

General Review

Absolutely brilliant. Love it, love it, love it.

Apart from all the accessories being sold separately and super expensive, still my number one choice.

Pros

Everything about it is brilliant. I particularly like that both children can sit upright at the same time. One problem I had with all the other prams I had with a toddler seat. The pannier are a great addition, as it means you can use those instead of the basket underneath.

Cons

The toddler seat needs a hood for when it is in toddler/toddler mode. Other than that. Nothing.
