My all-time favourite
Reviewed by: Carolyn from SE QLD, Apr 03, 2010General Review
As a long-time user of many many prams (I have 7 kids from 21 down to 1), I would have to say that this is one of my favourites! Many moons ago I owned Emmaljunga prams, and loved the classic style when it came to walking with them. They are so great to push. So when the Bertini's came out with their 4-wheel steering, I was love-struck. After buying a Bertini Bidwell several years ago, my new goal became the X5!And I haven't been disappointed. I also own the X2, and the bodies are interchangeable (all 3 seats and 2 carrycots that I own in 3 colours!) They are also interchangelable with the bassinette/highchair stand, and the rocker which I also own, but no longer use.
The shopping basket on this pram is great, with plenty of room for those walks down to the supermarket!
The hood folds right down to the bumper when the stroller is in upright mode. Great for those hot summer days.
The carrycot is gorgeous, and looks so snug! It has a carryhandle built into the hood, and a zip pocket for your keys etc in the hood. The carrycot also folds down flat for storage, or to fit it in your car.
The wheels can all steer, or all be fixed straight. Steering is good on footpaths and in shops, but if you are on a rough surface it is best to go into fixed mode. (this is easily done by simple adjusting the bar at the back of the pram)
The seat unit slopes down or up depending on the way it is facing. This is supposed to be to reduce reflux/colic in younger babies when they are facing you. Personally I don't like this, although it doesn't seem to be as pronounced on the X5 as it is on the X2.
The height adjustable handle means we can all push the pram - from hubby through to the 10 year old.
Pump up tires have their pros and cons. They can be slightly flattened for pushing on soft surfaces like the sand, but the annoying thing is having to then pump them back up again!!
I don't use this pram in the car, as it is pretty heavy. Maybe if I was younger and this was my first baby, but I'm getting to old for that these days!!
The large seat means my daughter (who has special needs) should fit in it for a long time. But the big drawback is that it doesn't take a toddler seat. Apparently the X4 is the only one in the series that does.
