Almost perfect city stroller

Reviewed by: Mariah from NYC, US, Mar 10, 2009

General Review

I liked this stroller so much that I got one for my brother after I had had mine a while; this stroller is extremely well-thought-out, though it might not be for everyone.

This is the stroller I would recommend to anyone in a real city. It's not quite as light as a true umbrella, but it's way more rugged and useful and easy to get around, due to the back tires, easy fold, and small profile.

My favorite attributes that are not often highlighted are that teh stroller folds into a trolley style so that you can easily drag it behind you, like a Stokke, but a third of the weight. Also, so long as the basket isn't carrying something giant or stiff, you can fold the stroller with stuff still in the basket, no problem.

A couple of things though: I think this works best if you also buy a sunshade (the hood is pathetic), and two saddlebags (Skip Hop or similar). The saddlebags both increase the amount of storage, obviously, but also add weight where you'd want it, at the bottom, rather than on the handles. So if you're out for a big shopping day, the basket won't hold much, but the saddle-bags will help and they will also allow you to add some weight to the handles... without this additional weight, it's pretty tippy without adding that much. And, if you're living in a city, I'd go ahead and also get an Ergo or similar, so that you never have to worry about public transportation.

That said, this stroller takes up no storage space, is super light, folds up easy, and will take you almost anywhere you want to go. I took it through a garden and hilly park for a two-hour walk without too much trouble.

Finally, I got this for my brother, who lives in Montreal. Circumstances: lots of stairs, small apartment, snow not always plowed, public transportation and small restaurants and shops. I couldn't think of any other stroller that would work under these circumstances. Of course it's not a true all-terrain, but for in-and-about the city where snow could happen any time, I just cannot imagine any other stroller working half so well.

Oh, and if you're only buying one stroller, and you can afford it, the Toro would be another good idea. It's a bit heavier, but has a better recline. It's a toss-up as to which is better, just different.

Pros

+ By far the lightest stroller with air tires
+ Great, easy fold
+ Nice style
+ Trolly fold + air tires = easy to drag behind you
+ Adjustable handle can be used for moderately tall parents (but might be not great if you have a very long stride)
+ Folds with stuff in basket
+ Smooth, easy, one-handed push that takes curbs and potholes with no trouble
+ Not fabulous, but decent enough in snow, by rocking back onto back tires (added bonus, back tires are narrow enough to go through narrowly-plowed walk).
+ Stands on its own and has slim profile, such that it can easily sit up against a wall in a crowded restaurant.

Cons

- Straightest setting is pretty reclined. My son doesn't mind but it might be a problem for some.
- "Recline" is not much. My son can sleep with it, but it may not suit your kid.
- Chair is sling-style, not molded. Think hammock, not office chair.
- You'll definitely need to get added sun protection, and you may need extra storage bags. This is definitely not a sherpa.
- Basket is smallish (though normal for an umbrella), but mostly inaccessible. I almost always access it from the front of the stroller, which is not hard, but just not as convenient as the back.
- Stroller is tippy if there's stuff on handles and no kid in the seat.
- Due to the light weight, it doesnt feel as solid as bigger strollers. It's the trade-off, weight or solidity.
- Limited color options.
- Seat does not reverse.

All that said, for me, this could function as my only stroller, easily. I am very impressed with the functionality.

Not worth all the Hype

Reviewed by: Margaret from Australia, Jan 26, 2009

General Review

The Stroller mode is great when children are well over the age of one as the stroller folds so fast and compactily and its so light to lift. I had the bassinet attachment for this stroller which makes the pram suitable from birth but it was an absolute nightmare to attach. It would take well over 5 minutes to get it into the car. far to complicated with attaching the bassinet bar and the then the bassinet. Sold it within 2 months of having it far to much work

Pros

Stroller great for toddlers who don't need to nap

Cons

Very complicated to attach bassinet; stroller seat does not recline enough even for older babies and no storage. Definitely not worthe the money.

Amazing easy to push stroller

Reviewed by: Brigitte from Hong Kong, Nov 13, 2006

General Review

I have had 8 pushchairs (for my 2 kids), and tried several more. The micralite has been a dream, I have a very weak back, and it is a dream to push. It is also very light and fold in a very compact way. It lasted my two kids, when my second one turned two years old, it was worn off, so I got a cheap Mac Laren, it costed me a year at the physio. The only problem is that the seat doesn't recline enough for your baby to have a proper nap, it was a big down for me as I like to go out for long hours. However I would certainly recommend this stroller to anyone.

Pros

Very light
Folds very easily and small
Very easy to push, and to negociate stairs with.
Looks very cool

Cons

Th seat doesn't recline enough.
