Introduction
iCandy is a British family business that dates back to the early 1930s.
The iCandy range was specifically developed for the parent who needs
something special, something different, something that catches the eye.
The Pear is a convertible inline double which means it can be either a
fully independent single or double stroller by adding or removing the
Pear Pip connector. The Pear Pip can also be purchased as an optional
accessory to transform the iCandy Apple to a double stroller.

Colour coded seat attachment points
The iCandy Pear has two seat units that are attached to the chassis via a
Pip converter frame. The upper seat is colour coded blue and the lower
seat colour coded yellow.
*Please note the seats are not independently reversible, the Pip converter frame
is able to change directions, thus changing the seat direction. Both seats
have to face the same direction.
The seats have a 3 position recline bucket styling. The recline is two
handed using the grey buttons on either side of the seat. The footrest is
multi position adjustable. Both seats can be reclined independently of
the other, though I would recommend the lower seat be at least partially
reclined when fully reclining the upper seat.
The Pear can be used as a single by removing the Pear Pip converter and
putting the upper blue adaptor seat into the main slot. The seat can only
be used rearward facing when in single mode.
The seats are two different sizes. Seat dimensions are:
Upper seat:
Width 32cm (12.6")
Seat Back 48cm (18.9")
Seat depth 28cm (11")
Footwell 15cm (5.9")
Lower seat:
Width 32cm (12.6")
Seat back 46cm (18.1")
Seat depth 28cm (11")
Footwell 14cm (5.5")
The seat sizes, particularly the lower seat, are smaller then average. The width is nice and generous but the seat back height and footrest length will not be suitable for taller children. The sun hoods can be removed though, which could be an option to extend the use for taller children.

Child safety harness
The harness is a 5-point standard harness that is easy to access; it fastens and unfastens easily by an adult. Toddlers would not be able to unfasten the buckle with ease.
There are 3 harness slots on the upper seat and 2 on the lower seat, it does require some effort to adjust the harness height but it was not prohibitively hard to do. I found it easiest to take the seat off the chassis and turn it upside down to access the inside of the seat back through the Velcro closure at the bottom. The Pear comes with padded harness and crotch straps

Hood or Canopy
Rear viewing window on hood
Side mesh viewing window
Hood attachment clip
The hood provides an adequate amount of protection when the seat is in the full upright position. Less coverage is provided when the seat is reclined and a separate suncover would be advised.
There is an audible click when adjusting the hood but not enough to wake a sleeping child. The viewing window is large and can be buttoned back out of the way. The hood also has side mesh/clear panels.

Handle design and function
Handle at lowest position
Handle at highest point
Handle height adjust button
The Pear handle bar has an easy one button adjust system. The height ranges from 97cm (38.2") to an impressive 111cm (43.7"). Even the tallest of parents will have a comfortable stride length pushing the Pear.

Storage
Under seat basket
Access to basket
Storage pocket on back of seat
The Pear has a generously sized storage basket, unfortunately when both seats are installed the basket access is very restricted. The seat back of both seats has a zippered pocket for extra storage of smaller items.

Wheels and Brakes
The 12” (30.5cm) rear wheels are pneumatic; the wheel width is wider then a lot of wheels on the market. This combined with the rear suspension provide a nice ride over bumpy terrain. The front wheels are solid double wheels nicely spaced for stability. The front wheels can be locked for rough terrain by using the lever over each front wheel.
Front and back wheels can be removed with a quick release button. The rear button is a little hard to find. It is along the rear axle and it levers up for release.
Brake disengaged
Brake engaged
The brake system is a single bar, which engages very smoothly. There are no clunks and the curved section in the middle of the brake bar feels instinctual to use.

Fold mechanism
The Pear is a 4-piece fold. If you have a larger boot space you may be able to leave the seats and Pip frame as one component creating a 2-piece fold, but for the normal sedan boot the seats, Pip frame and the stroller chassis will need to be disassembled for folding.
The seats are removed using the recline buttons. Press in the buttons on both side of the seat frame and lift the seat out of the fitting. The Pip frame is removed in the same action using the buttons at the centre attachment. The Pip frame folds down flat and fits snugly into the
collapsed chassis.
The chassis opens one handed and clicks into the open position easily. To fold the chassis, you press and hold the round button on the side of the handle, hold in the handle-position-adjust button, push the handle down to the lowest point and use downward pressure on the handle to collapse the chassis. The chassis can be locked by a manual lock which is near the storage basket. It is not the most intuitive fold but is very easy to get used to.
Despite being a 4-piece fold it can be done in a matter of seconds once you have the knack. The size of the components stacked is quite tall but being separate pieces they can be rearranged and packed into your boot to suit the space available.

Manoeuvrability
The Pear handles very well for a double stroller, on shop floors it is a one handed push. The narrow frame fits through standard check outs and any tight fitting spaces with ease. The seat configuration makes it no bigger than pushing a standard single stroller. The Pear is not an all terrain stroller but it handles outside pavements and slight bumps, grass etc reasonably well. iCandy recommend that you extend the handle all the way out to help lever the stroller up on to the kerb and this really does make a difference when compared to levering it up with the handle height set in a shorter setting.

Summary and Rating
Pros
- Narrow footprint and small chassis
- Manufactured from quality parts
- Manoeuvres well inside and out
- Flexible seating accommodating two seat units, two bassinet units, two carseats or a combination of these.
Cons
- Seat units are small
- 4 piece fold
Conclusion
The iCandy Pear is overall an attractive stroller. The small footprint and narrow chassis makes it perfect for nipping around busy streets and shops. The 4-piece fold and the smaller then average seats are the only draw back to the Pear. The Pear is well made, the components fit together effortlessly and the mechanics work smoothly.I found the Pear easy to manoeuvre around town and in the shops. Over grass and gravel it held its own, though I would not be wanting to push it for long, or often over those surfaces. The 4-piece fold was not hard to do, and had the advantage of being better on your back, lifting lighter individual pieces, but if time is a factor for you then a one or 2-piece fold might be a better option.
The ability to take 2 bassinettes or 2 car seats (excluding Australia) make the Pear a perfect travel solution for twins from newborn.
