New Safe-n-Sound Compaq
23rd April, 2012, 11.08am ESTSafe-n-Sound have just released a redesigned version of their compact convertible car seat - the Compaq. For many families who have a small car or need to fit more than two car seats in the car, the Compaq has been their only option.
The great news is that the new Compaq, whilst retaining its narrow profile and reduced depth when rear facing, now has fantastic tall side wings which not only provide increased side impact protection, but means taller children can stay in the seat for longer. The tall harness slots also help to extend the time that a tall child can use this seat.
The new Safe-n-Sound Compaq comes in 6 brilliant colours and will retail for $499. It is expect in stores from the beginning of May.
Look out for our review of this seat in the near future!

Introducing Isofix to Australia
07th April, 2012, 10.24am ESTA new vehicle safety standard announced recently by the Australian Federal Government will pave the way for car restraints using the Isofix anchorage system to be sold in Australia.
Car restraints that use the Isofix attachment system click into rigid attachment points located at the base of the car's back seat. Whilst it has been argued that the Isofix system is no safer than the current Australian system which utilises the car's seat belt plus a top tether attachment, studies suggest that the Isofix system is considerably easier for parents to install correctly. With a 2004 RACV study suggesting that up to 70% of Australian car seats are incorrectly installed, the Isofix system is welcomed by many as a way of further improving the safety of Australian seats.
Those looking to buy an Isofix car restraint will need to wait a while yet before they come onto the Australian market. A revision of the Australian Standard for Child Restraints will need to occur before manufacturers can begin to design the new seats. Britax have estimated the revision could occur in 2013, with seats appearing on the market in 2014, however this could still be a conservative estimate.

Mima Xari Charity auction
02nd April, 2012, 9.07am ESTIn January our resident reviewer Ally reviewed (and promptly fell in love with!) the Mima Xari. Nursery Elegance, the Australian distributors of Mima Prams, generously allowed us to keep the Xari which Ally used for her review, and auction it as a charity fundraiser.
All funds raised from the auction will go to the Life's Little Treasures Foundation, a wonderful organisation which provides support and information to parents of premature babies.
Please help support the valuable work of Life's Little Treasures, and pick yourself up a most wonderful pram while you're at it!

Petite Star Njoy Bubble reversible umbrella stroller
27th March, 2012, 1.45pm ESTHaving been a member of a stroller forum for several years now, I have noticed that one of the most frequent requests we get from new members is for a lightweight stroller that allows baby to face back towards their parent. This might not seem like too much to ask, but the truth is that trying to find something that is truly lightweight and rear facing is much harder than you'd think.
UK brand Petite Star, in conjunction with Spanish company Njoy are trying fill this gap in the market. The Njoy Bubble is an umbrella stroller with seat that can face both forwards and back.
I have to admit I was skeptical when I first read about the concept. My two concerns were how many seat positions would be available rear facing, and how many steps it would take to reverse the seat.
I haven't had the pleasure of testing the Njoy Bubble in real life, but a look at the YouTube promo has me excited! The Njoy seat changes direction with the use of just one hand, and the hood changes direction just as easily. More good news - the Njoy Bubble weighs just 8kg, and will retail for £199.
The Njoy was launced at the Harrogate Nursery Fair last weekend. It will be available in purple and silver. No news yet on availability.

St Kilda Mums win community grant
20th March, 2012, 10.20am ESTI stumbled upon the not for profit group 'St Kilda Mums' just last week when I was doing one of my regular Google searches for something pram related. I was so excited to find an organisation which is working to get good quality used baby goods to people who really need them.
St Kilda Mums is based in the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda and is run entirely by volunteers. The goods that are donated are sorted, cleaned up and repaired if necessary, and are then passed on to mums who need them, via a network of not for profit organisations St Kilda Mums has linked in with.
Last week St Kilda Mums won a $10,000 community grant from the Bank of Melbourne and Herald Sun's Local Projects Community Grant. This will help them to cover the running costs of the organisation and free the volunteers up to to the work they do best.
St Kilda Mums could still do with more help though. If you live locally and have good quality baby goods that you could donate (prams and cots are particularly sought after), or could donate your time to help sort, wash or mend items, then please read through the St Kilda Mums website to see how you can help. Help with donations of money or expertise is also greatly appreciated.
