Cameleon vs Frog parts and their interchangeability

Seeing we get a lot of "does this fit" or "Can I do this" questions in the forum for Bugaboo hybrids I thought I would do a brakedown of the Cameleon and Frog with an explanation of what is different between the two models. Sorry I don't have a Gecko to compare as well but maybe someone with one can add some info here too. Ok starting from the bottom and working up

REAR WHEELS - Interchangeable

  • Rims- same on both models
  • Tyres- Older cammys have smooth pump up tyres
  • Newer cammys have smooth non pump up tyres
  • Frogs have treaded pump up tyres
I see no benefit changing frog to cammy rear wheels unless you go to non pump up

FRONT WHEELS - Interchangeable

Cammy

  • adjustable suspension
Frog
  • fixed suspension
Changing to cammy front wheels gives you more suspension options

UNDERSEAT BASKET - Interchangeable

Cammy

  • Larger capacity

Frog

  • Smaller capacity
Obviously you get more carrying room with the cammy basket on the frog

CHASSIS - Interchangeable

Cammy

  • Adjustable handle
  • Longer footprint
  • Taller axles to seat connection = a taller seat height
  • Fold mechanism on outside of handle
  • One button on each side on newer models, two on left of older models
  • Brake on the outer edge of the handle bar,
  • Tendency on uneven ground to wander downhill
  • Made in Taiwan

Frog

  • non-adjustable handle
  • Fold mechanism on inside of handle, two on left one on right
  • Brake on inner side of handle
  • Made in Taiwan
  • shopping hook compatible
  • Less tendency to wander on uneven ground
  • Sturdier (my opinion)
  • Shorter footprint
  • Shorter axle to seat unit connection meaning a lower seat position
In my opinion the frog chassis is a better option if you are using your bugaboo for outdoor use because it stays true to the direction you are going and you don't have to fight with it to stay straight. If you are a shopping centre user only then the cammy frame will be just fine.

SEAT FRAME - Interchangeable

Cammy

  • taller seat unit= more growing room

Frog

  • Shorter seat unit
Upgrading to a cammy seat frame will get more use out of the frog as more head height is added

CARRY HANDLE/ BUMPER BAR - Interchangeable
No difference between models the seat width on both is the same

HOOD CLIPS - Interchangeable

Cammy

  • clips open wider
  • Does not allow the hood to tuck behind the seat

Frog

  • Clips open narrower
  • Allows hood to sit behind the seat.
The wider opening on the cammy clips makes the hood taught on the cammy seat frame I have not tried cammy clips on the frog though. I have frog clips on my cammy seat frame and they cause slight bagging of the hood. I am willing to exchange a slightly baggy hood for one that can tuck behind the frame as this give the child even more headroom and means their head is not resting on the folded hood.

HOOD WIRES - Interchangeable
No difference can be seen between the two models

BASE/ SEAT FABRIC - NOT Interchangeable

Cammy

  • fabrics are bigger to accommodate larger seat frame.
  • Does not sit well on frog frame.

Frog

  • smaller does not fit on cammy seat frame
I don't recommend cammy base fabrics for the frog seat frame I found they put small babies at an odd alignment in the seat well.

HOODS/BREEZYS - Semi-Interchangeable

Cammy

  • hoods/breezy bigger can be used on the frog but are slightly baggy

Frog

  • Smaller hoods.
  • I have not tried one on a cammy seat frame

SEAT LININGS/ TOPPINGS - Semi-Interchangeable
Cammy seat linings will fit the frog seat frame but are slightly baggy

BASSINETTES - Semi-Interchangeable

Cammy

  • bassinette fabrics can be used on a frog frame
  • they have different aprons though as they zip into the top rather then slide over

Frog

  • have not tried a frog bassinette on cammy frame.

SHOPPING HOOKS - Not-Interchangeable
Only made for the Frog (gecko possibly?)

ACCESSORIES - Semi-Interchangeable

  • Cammy Raincovers and mosquito net could be used on the frog but may be baggy
  • Sunshade can only be used on the compatible model
The cammy sunshade will not fit the frog nor the frog sunshade fit the cammy. I found this particular accessory a complete pain and use a non-bugaboo one now which is much easier to get on and off and STAYS ON which is the whole point lol
